Miss
Universe 2018 Catriona Ragas Magnayon Gray from Oas in Albay & Australia, is
a winner, global. Rodrigo Roa Duterte
from Davao City is a winner, local. Missing
lesson.
She
has been a warrior, now a winner. He has been a warrior in his own terms, now a
warrior in a corner.
He
dares think and say, look at the headline above: "Catriona Gray's Miss
Universe Win Further Empower Filipino Women – MalacaƱang" (17 December
2018, UNTV News, ph.news.yahoo.com).
The text and the thought are both wrong, sorry. Birds of a feather flunk together.
Text: It should read, "further
empowers," present tense, singular. Mr Lawyer, you have Thought: You should think, "further
emboldens," present tense, singular. As a lawyer, you should know your logic.
To win is to inspire initiative in people, not to instill skill for victory. Those 2 are
as far as from here to there!
UNTV
says Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo says, "Miss Philippines has
shown to the world that women in our country have the ability to turn dreams
into reality through passion, diligence, determination and hard work."
He
doesn't know her enough, only what he has read in the evening news. Or heard.
He has not done his research like a good lawyer should. He does not know that
she has been a loser, a really big loser – she lost in the Miss World beauty
contest in 2016; she placed only among the Top 5.
He
doesn't know that there was online outrage that Miss Catriona did not win the Miss World 2016 title, as
ANN says ("Why Are Filipinos Outraged That Catriona Gray Didn’t Win The
Miss World 2016 Title?" 23 December 2016, Missosology, missosology.org).
I didn't know either, but I have done my virtual
homework. I mean, doing research sitting pretty in my home office.
So I
find ANN saying Miss Catriona says on 21 December 2016 in an Instagram post, "The
question most of you are asking is if I'm okay and I can securely say that I am"
(news.abs-cbn.com).
The Miss World contest in 2016 was held on 18 December 2016 at the MGM National
Harbor, Washington DC. Which means she spoke publicly only after 3 days of
grieving – and after looking inside herself. She says of her quest for the
crown of Miss World:
The crown represented a journey, one that
grew from being an independent endeavor to one that became more than me. A
journey that rallied the support of my countrymen. A journey that forced me to
look into myself and discover what I was made of.
Has Mr
Lawyer rallied the support of his countrymen and succeeded? Mr Lawyer says "Ms.
Gray's triumph sets the bar high in empowering more Filipino women to believe
in themselves and to fight for their own place in the universe." No! Mr
Lawyer now residing at MalacaƱang, I am 100% sure Miss Catriona's
victory was because she empowered herself.
If now one other Filipina looks inside herself and discover what she is made
of, then Miss Catriona has emboldened her to empower herself! @
