Me, 2 wishes I have for 2019: Love and Science.
For Love:
For all Humans, we need more Love. If you ask me, there are 3 aspects of Love: Mercy, Compassion, and Justice. Pope Francis will be glad to tell you all about those 3. I'm glad to tell you now that we ought to Love the Sinner and Hate the Sin, meaning shower the Sinner with Mercy and Compassion; but punish the Sinner according to what Justice demands.

For Science:
As suggested by the image above (my photograph taken 11 February 2016 showing a book I'm working on (left) and a field of rice growing (right), the photograph of rice taken in Asingan, Pangasinan: We need more Rice (right of image) for which we need more Science (left of image).

"We need more Science" is the overall message I get
reading William Dollente Dar in his Friday column at Manila Times online, Part 2 of "My Wish List For 2019," 28
December 2018, manilatimes.net).
I can see 4 of that Wish List:
(1) Fisheries & aquatic resources rationalized
Mr Dar is calling for the creation of the Department of
Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, DoFAR. There is the Bureau of Fisheries
& Aquatic Resources, BFAR, of course, but it's under the Department of
Agriculture, DA, and it cannot have more funds than the DA. DoFAR will need
billions of pesos to develop our Philippine waters that are part of the very
rich Coral Triangle, which includes those of Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New
Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Timor Leste.
(2) Agriculture in schools promoted
Mr Dar says a reader of his columns has suggested that:
There is a need for
the Department of Education to include agriculture or urban gardening and basic
agronomy and landscaping a part of the curriculum in elementary and junior and
senior high school. State colleges and universities that offer agriculture and
related courses should take the lead for this proposal.
This calls for schools to give "additional emphasis on
agribusiness." This can go hand in hand with government initiatives, as
well as private initiatives like GoNegosyo , to help breed more agri-based
business ventures.
(3) Coconut industry revitalized
Mr Dar urges the Philippine Coconut Authority, PCA, to
develop further the coconut industry "to make it more competitive
internationally, and for smallholder farmers of the crop to earn more."
PCA will have to find ways to add value and expand the export market for coconut.
Not to forget to plant more high-yielding hybrids, considering the Philippines'
"anemic 45 nuts per tree" while India and Brazil can produce from 200
to 400 nuts per year.
(4) Agriculture research unified
For "more science-based solutions and approaches"
in agriculture, Mr Dar says PH needs putting in place a unified science agenda
and investing billions of pesos to come up with commercial applications
"that will help the country reduce poverty."
All of the above calls for?
"Science with a human face."
ICRISAT slogan when Mr Dar was DG from 2000 to 2014. Good ideas
